Oh, Haiti!
Could the news from Haiti be any worse? The latest news is that the UN headquarters there has collapsed, with at least 100 people inside. The picture of the lopsided national palace is amazing. I cannot imagine any country having worse fortunes than Haiti — well, there are a few, but Haiti seems especially cursed.
Haiti has been on my mind since visiting the Newseum in Washington, D.C. over the holidays. A Pulitzer Prize for photography was awarded to the Miami Herald in 2009 after another recent disaster there — here is the link.
A colleague from Haiti writes on Facebook: “This has been a disaster beyond our most vivid nightmares and your continued prayers and support are greatly appreciated.”
